Getting Hooked

It was always a guy thing-getting up early in the morning, sitting in a stand in the freezing Missouri weather, and waiting. What girl in her right mind would want to do that?

I did.

Katie Hill
As a very young girl, I can remember vividly the night before deer season in the Hill house. The smell of a warm soup or stew, the laughter of family, and us-ALL of us, sitting in the living room talking strategy. Where would we sit opening morning? Where would we park? How warm do we dress?

The fact that the guys would let me tag along has always meant a lot to me. In fact, that’s how I got hooked. I didn’t go out in the stand to shoot a monster, to beat a record, or to get another wall decoration. I went hunting because of the people I got to go with and the time I got to spend with them. My first deer wasn’t a monster, but the memory of the hunt is one that is a trophy in my book.

The fact that my father took me hunting at a young age has led me to the place and career I am at today. Spending time in the outdoors instills more in a person than just their surroundings. It brings with it peace, understanding, responsibility, and comradery. Where else can you learn so much?

I am very blessed to be able to co-host Must Have Outdoors. It ties together two things that I love-the outdoors, and helping people! This is quite an adventure for me, and I look forward to every minute of it. It is my hope that you follow along and enjoy this adventure with us!
